Seeing Stars

Last week I was asked to create a 50th birthday cake with a cake and cup cakes. I wasn’t given a theme, the only request was use of the colour purple.
I decided stars would work well and set about creating something stunning for the party. I did variations of different stars and shades of purple. I also thought it would look great to have stars coming off the cake too, so I managed to put them onto flexible wires from the top of the cake.
Here is the finished cake, I was very pleased with it and was told it was very well received at the party.

Creepy Halloween Cup Cakes

We are now into October and fast approaching a day that all we all look forward to at The Rainbow Cake Company: Halloween!
Double, double, toll and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Eye of newt, toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing.
Fortunately none of those ingredients go into our cup cakes, however, it seems only right that we came up with some designs for this fun time of year. So Ghosts, pumpkins, Black cats, bats, witches and mummies are all here. Here are a few ideas that we came up with yesterday.

Black and Pink Wedding

On Sunday, I delivered my latest wedding cake to Chilworth Manor in Eastleigh, Southampton.
The couple approached me about producing a three tier wedding cake. The colour theme of the wedding was Black and Pink, they also wanted flowers and Butterflies. I produced some icing butterflies and hand painted them to show what they would look like. As soon as the couple had seen the butterflies the ordered straight away and we came up with a suitable design for the cake.
The Bottom layer was Triple Chocolate fudge cake, the middle layer was Vanilla Madeira and a traditional Rich fruit for the top layer. Everything on the cake is edible apart from the ribbon.

Mad Hatters Tea Party

I`ve been asked to make a birthday cake for a Mad Hatters Tea Party for today – did my imagination run wild! What characters could I place on the cake, the Mad Hatter himself, the white rabbit, door mouse and of course Alice.
I decided on three tiers slightly off set to make it look a little crazy and decorate each layer differently, the white rabbit on the bottom, the middle the Mad Hatter and door mouse and finally Alice on top.
